FFNWB helping Renton teens get a foothold on their financial futures

May 2, 2019

The Renton School District currently provides middle and high school students with classes on personal financial management. For the past several years, FFNWB has been providing financial learning classes to local high school students.  In continuing our financial education involvement, the bank is teaming up with the Renton Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Renton Technical College (RTC), to hold a Financial Reality Fair on May 8, 2019 on the RTC campus. Hundreds of high school students will be attending for part of their day as they go through a financial boot camp, which involves local businesses assisting with variety of financial scenarios. A special emphasis on assisting students in receiving hands-on, one-on-one learning experience for a clearer path to the student financial stability and security now, and later in life.

Some of the specific areas to be covered are:

  • Reading their paycheck
  • Understanding taxes
  • Finding a place to live
  • Budgeting household expenses
  • Buying a car, getting loan
  • Applying for a line of credit
  • Paying off student loans
  • and more

The event is Wednesday, May 8, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Renton Technical College cafeteria, 3000 NE 4th Street, Renton.
